Just a quick note to tell you that we made it. After 25 and 1/2 hours of travel we arrived at the Minilla Airport. The planes were nice, but we couldn't sleep. Especially on the one to Japan. We did get an hour or two on the one from Tokyo. We sat by Nuis and Boy. Two men from Taiwan that did not speak English at all for 12 hours coming from LA. They looked like the "old" men that Dad used to hire as sheepherders.
I kept trying to get internet at every airport stop, but nothing worked. Finally we arrived in Manilla. We looked kind of lost and the guy holding the MTC/LDS sign wasn't expecting us but said he would take care of us, so he got us to the Minilla hotel (pictures included) and Dad crashed, but I couldn't sleep the air conditioner was loud and I am not on Manilla time with my sleep yet anyway, about an hour later (1 a.m.) our phone rang and our driver said we were in the wrong hotel and he had come to pick us up, so Dad went down to meet him while I waited in the hotel room. Well on the way down, he took the exit with stairs and was locked out of the building, after two flights of stairs it turned into a fire escape ladder which ended in a cement blockade. He tried to go back, but the building was locked, it was dirty, his hands were black. and so he tapped on a guys window and woke him up to see if he could climb through his window to get back in the building. The guy called security, so they opened the door so that he could get back in the building; they really were laughing. except for when the guy called security. Dad was so tired and dirty. Anyway, Filo, our driver packed us up again, somehow we missed him at the airport. He was a member of the church that was supposed to drive us. He took us to a lovely hotel where we crashed at about 1:30 a.m. We woke up about 8:00 Manilla time on Wed. morning. Some senior missionaries Elder and Sister Schlager came and picked us up at 11:00 to take us to get a cell phone and meet with President Revillo. He told us our assignment as soon as we get settled we begin. They took us out to lunch and gave us a bunch of information from what to eat, how to drive, what to wear, what to carry with us, where to shop. They will help us get a Filipino drivers license, or AAA one won't work, and we'll be getting a car by Monday.
Thanks Alisa for driving us to the airport. We're off.
The first hotel had you slide a key in a slot to get electricity. These are all the keys Yikes!
The first hotel beds, so tiny, your feet hung over the edge.
Second hotel, clean, nice room quiet air, good breakfast. Yes, I can sleep here.
